A Governess is employed to teach and educate children in a private household. she concentrates on teaching children, not their physical needs. The Governess would normally work with children from age 3 upwards. She would not generally have to undertake the same nursery duties that a nanny would. A Governess will significantly aid your child’s progress in school.
Duties:
Tutoring English along with other school subjects such as Maths, history, science, art, geography.... depending on the needs of the position.
Tutoring Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, German
Preparation for 7 +, 11+ and 13+ Public school entrance exams
Helping with homework
Teaching your child to read
School pick ups and drop offs
Organising extracurricular activities for your child
Focusing on the child’s social, educational and creative development.
Organising activities, outings and games
Liaising with other tutors and/or school teachers, nannies & parents regarding development as required
Teaching musical instruments and other languages if the Governess is bilingual
Teaching manners, etiquette, and social formality.
Working alongside a Nanny or mothers help
Home schooling a child when the family travels frequently
Salaries depend on experience start from £800 per week net.
The salaries can be anywhere between £800- £2000 per week net.
Works hours:
Governesses work on average 6-10 hours per day with 2 days off per week.
Negotiable between the family and governess.
Accommodation
A Governess would expect her own private bedroom and bathroom or a furnished studio apartment
Meals Provided
A Governess would expect all meals to be provided when on dutyy
Holidays Allowance
A Governess would expect a minimum of 30 days holiday per year this is dependent on the country
